Many homeowners find themselves questioning which option to go with when it comes to flooring. Vinyl plank or hardwood. What are the pro's and cons of each option? And which option is right for me?

Vinyl plank flooring can cost four times less than traditional hardwood. While some people prefer the look of hardwood; the ease of installation and lower material cost saves money. Time is also a factor in which vinyl plank stands out. Vinyl plank has a much quicker turn around time. Shortening your project time significantly. Vinyl plank also gives you many options to choose from and can imitate different types of stone, wood and more. however if it is damaged it must be replaced and cannot be re-finished. Vinyl also loses out in longevity, it does not hold up to the test of time as well as hardwood.

Hardwood on the other hand has the potential to raise your homes value by up to 5%. Hardwood can also be sanded and re-finished if a change is desired. The look of hardwood is quite unique and while vinyl plank does a good job, it is still noticeable that it is faux. Hardwood however, with younger kids and pets, will tend to get scratched and stained over time. Maintenance for hardwood can be more tedious and time consuming than vinyl. Water damage is also more likely to affect hardwood than it is vinyl flooring.

Both are great products. When choosing you should keep in mind your families life style, the look you will be happy with and of course your budget.
